NCDC’s report on cholera

The World Health Organization (WHO) has defined cholera as Vibrio cholera strains.

Cholera has continuously pose threats to the wellbeing of too many people all over the world ever since the first outbreak in the Ganges-delta in India from a reservoir.

Nonetheless, regardless of the accumulated awareness on the causes and preventions of cholera. It still remains an infectious disease which transmits to more people than experts in the field would ever expect.

It was recorded in the week 27-30 epidemiological cholera situation between the dates of 4th July – 31st July, 2022 by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC that about 10 deaths in the previous week of the month alone out of the total number of 175 reported cases, expressing disaster rate of the disease at 5.7% in a country where death rate is stuck at 11.9 per 1,000 people as of the year 2018.

Hence, in an effort to restraint the spread of the wide spread of the disease, citizens of the country has then have been addressed that:

 

  • You must wash your vegetables and fruits with very clean water.
  • Peel your fruits before taking them.
  • Water and foods should be kept in well covered containers.
  • Only water from very reliable sources be consumed or distilled water.
